Advanced Materials and Mechanics Laboratory

Research in the Daly Group

Our research interests lie in the application of experimental mechanics to materials science in an effort to characterize, design, and develop new materials. Our group specializes in the multi-scale mechanics of materials, with a focus on functional materials, materials for demanding environments (including high temperature and very high cycle fatigue applications) and unique experimental methods particularly for small-scale characterization.

Specific areas of interest include:

  • Fatigue, fracture, creep
  • Novel methodologies for multi-scale material characterization
  • Small-scale characterization
  • High-temperature studies
  • The effect of microstructure on material properties
  • Functional materials
  • Composites
  • Materials for demanding environments
